PPRW Statement

As part of our commitment to making glass packaging work for brands while supporting a more sustainable future, Calaso supports the goal of the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) to reduce the environmental impact of packaging.

We worked towards compliance ahead of the regulation’s primary date of application on 12 August 2026. We have finalised a Statement pursuant to Article 16 of the PPWR in our capacity as a supplier of packaging and packaging materials. The Statement is designed to support you in your role as manufacturer with your conformity assessment obligations and in drawing up your own EU Declarations of Conformity for the packaged goods you place on the market.

The Statement covers our glass bottles and jars as well as our complete primary packaging systems, including closures, and direct printing.

At the same time, we are anticipating the long-term structural requirements that will come into effect in the years ahead. We have conducted a risk-based assessment across our portfolio and, together with Chorus Public Affairs in Brussels, are closely monitoring developments from the European Commission, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and European standardisation bodies (CEN) to prepare for long-term compliance.

Key areas we are tracking include:

Reuse Standards: Additional criteria for recognising reusable packaging systems, such as minimum rotation thresholds.
Harmonised Packaging Labelling: Implementation of EU-wide sorting pictograms, applicable from 12 August 2028, or 24 months after the relevant implementing acts are adopted.
Design for Recycling (DfR): Technical recyclability criteria and performance grades (A–C), to be published by the Commission by 1 January 2028, for application from 1 January 2030.
Recycled-at-Scale: A methodology for assessing packaging categories recycled at scale, scheduled for publication by 1 January 2030.
Packaging Minimisation: Harmonised standards for packaging weight, volume, and empty space, taking effect on 1 January 2030.

While detailed technical criteria and methodologies for 2030 will be formally adopted by European authorities in the coming years, our ongoing assessments give us confidence in the long-term compliance of our portfolio. Calaso’s packaging solutions are designed with high recyclability, material efficiency, and packaging minimisation in mind. We will continue to validate our solutions as the regulatory framework develops and make adjustments where needed. This helps us prepare our portfolio and supports your packaging choices to remain resilient and well-prepared for the decade ahead.
